Influenza Vaccine: For your baby?

The Journal of the American Medical Association  recently reported a study that analyzed the effect of the influenza vaccine on children from 6 to 23 months old. The vaccine has been recommended for this age group since the 2004-2005 winter season, but its effects on children of that age were never fully studied.

The study in the Journal examined 45,356 children over a twelve year period. The study found that there were few events that required medical attention, none of which were serious or significantly associated with the vaccine, in the 1 to 14 day risk window (the study’s primary analysis). The study ultimately concludes that the influenza vaccine is indeed safe for those from 6 to 23 months old.
